Ontario truck buyers have a lot to track this year. Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, and Toyota have all confirmed real changes for the 2027 model year, and the details are not the same story across the board. Some trucks are getting new engines and technology; others are holding steady with a lighter refresh.
This guide sorts through what each brand has actually announced so far, without guesswork about pricing or arrival dates nobody has confirmed yet.
The 2027 Ford F-150 replaces its outgoing 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 with a new base 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6, rated at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. Ford also widens availability of the 5.0-litre V8 (400 hp, 410 lb-ft) across most trims, and adds a Carhartt Edition built on the XLT 4x4 SuperCrew.
Chevrolet and GMC are both introducing a fully redesigned Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 for 2027, with new sixth-generation 5.7-litre and 6.6-litre V8 engines, a 10-speed automatic transmission across the lineup, and a significantly upgraded cabin. GM describes the 6.6-litre as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 currently offered in the full-size class.
Ram’s biggest 2027 news is the Rumble Bee performance lineup, which spans a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 entry point up to the 777-hp Rumble Bee SRT. The standard 2027 Ram 1500 also comes with 4x4 as standard equipment in Canada across eight available powertrain configurations.
Toyota’s update is centred on the Tundra, which gets updated exterior styling, a new standard 14-inch touchscreen, and a factory-built off-road Trailhunter package. The Tacoma sees a much lighter touch this year, limited mainly to a new Honeycomb exterior colour on TRD Pro models.

On the F-150, the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 remains the towing-focused choice, rated at 400 hp and 500 lb-ft, with towing up to 13,500 lbs (6,124 kg) on 4x4 models. The 3.5-litre PowerBoost hybrid adds torque (570 lb-ft) for a smoother low-end pull, while the 5.2-litre supercharged V8 tops the lineup at 720 hp and 640 lb-ft for buyers who want maximum output over maximum tow rating.
On the GM side, Silverado organizes its seven trims into three lanes: Work Truck and Custom for fleet and value buyers, Z71, Trail Boss, Custom Trail Boss, and ZR2 for off-road use, and High Country at the top for comfort-focused buyers. ZR2 rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires with standard front and rear e-locking differentials, while Trail Boss runs a 34-inch tire and a 2-inch lift for a more accessible off-road stance.
Sierra follows a similar split: Pro and Elevation for daily use, AT4 and AT4X for off-road capability, and Denali and Denali Ultimate for the most refined cabins, with the Ultimate trim adding a 16.3-inch touchscreen, 12.2-inch driver display, 15-inch head-up display, and a 16-speaker audio system.
Ram’s Rumble Bee lineup uses a shortened, widebody Quad Cab chassis built specifically for the performance variants. The 5.7-litre HEMI Rumble Bee makes 395 hp and 410 lb-ft, the 6.4-litre Rumble Bee 392 steps up to 470 hp and 455 lb-ft, and the supercharged 6.2-litre Rumble Bee SRT tops the range at 777 hp and 680 lb-ft with full-time four-wheel drive.
Towing across the Rumble Bee range tops out at 8,890 lbs (4,032 kg), with payload up to 1,160 lbs (526 kg).
Toyota’s Trailhunter package builds on the SR5 grade with Michelin LTX Trail tires, an Old Man Emu suspension, front recovery hooks, and additional underbody protection, plus Multi-Terrain Select and a locking rear differential for trail driving. The gas twin-turbo V6 handles everyday towing duty, while the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid adds torque for buyers who want more responsiveness without stepping into a heavier-duty truck.
If towing is the priority, the story is really about which brand pairs capability with new driver-assist technology. The F-150’s BlueCruise with Towing lets drivers go hands-free on the highway while pulling a trailer, up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) when properly configured, a first for any Ford model and available from XLT through Platinum.
Silverado answers with Super Cruise hands-free driving extended to towing as well, a segment-exclusive pairing GM highlights directly against rival systems. Buyers cross-shopping these two should weigh which brand’s hands-free towing feature they’ll actually use, since both require specific equipment packages to unlock the full rating.
For off-road buyers, the decision is less about horsepower and more about hardware. Sierra’s AT4X pairs a Sierra-first 35-inch tire with front and rear e-locking differentials as standard equipment, while Silverado’s ZR2 matches the same 35-inch tire size with its own standard e-lockers and desert-tuned Multimatic dampers. Toyota’s Trailhunter takes a different, more accessible approach: it starts from the SR5 grade rather than a flagship trim, which puts factory overlanding hardware within reach of buyers who do not need Silverado or Sierra’s full off-road package.
For buyers chasing outright power, Ram’s Rumble Bee SRT and the F-150’s supercharged 5.2-litre V8 sit at the top of their respective lineups, but they serve different jobs. The Rumble Bee SRT is built for straight-line performance with launch control and a shortened wheelbase, while the F-150’s V8 output pairs with a more conventional towing-focused chassis.
A buyer who wants a daily truck with reserve power leans F-150; a buyer chasing outright acceleration leans Rumble Bee.
Fleet and work-truck buyers get the clearest picture from Silverado’s Work Truck trim and Sierra’s Pro and Elevation grades, both engineered around fleet uptime, simple interiors, and configurations built for common upfits rather than premium features.
GM has said Silverado 1500 availability and pricing will be announced later this year, with the truck expected to reach dealerships toward the end of the 2026 calendar year. Sierra 1500 follows a similar timeline, with GMC targeting dealership arrivals before the end of 2026 and more detail to follow. Ram’s Rumble Bee lineup launches in stages, with the 5.7-litre HEMI version arriving first, followed by the 392, 392 Track Pack, and Rumble Bee SRT in the first half of 2027.
Toyota has said full Tundra details, specifications, and pricing will be announced closer to the start of fall 2026 production.
